top1010songs
some songs i liked from 2010. no particular order. it took a while to get together but frankly it bugs me when the best of lists start popping up in the beginning of December. nothing good happens in December? i don't know. it seems wrong. what if kanye had waited a month or so to release his album? frankly, I'm still digesting the stuff that came out in March.
The Dead Weather - The difference between us
what can i say, its that song that you wish was at least twice as long
These New Puritans - We want war
part laibach, part max richter, hell, there is no way to describe this really. shouldn’t work and most probably think it doesn’t but it sounds pretty gorgeous to me.
Archie Bronson Outfit - Magnetic Warrior
b/c the understand that when you find that groove, you just don’t let it go...
Avi Buffalo - Truth Sets In
the song that simultaneously made avi buffalo’s special and not so special. it’s so good it makes the album worth buying but then nothing else on the album lives up to your expectations (even though it is not half bad but a bit too shins-like)
Esben and the Witch - The Marching Song
i find it hard to separate the song from the video accompanying it that was simple and extremely effective. but i think this is a good song.
Caribou - Odessa
creepy popsong. stands head and shoulders above everything else on the album. probably because it is depressing. although it really just makes me want to dance
Beach Fossils - Daydream
beach fossils best beach house at their own game (sort of).
Gonjasufi - DedNd
needs no words. sounds like nothing else while sounding like everything else. hmmm, got the munchies...
Tobacco - Fresh hex
it’s just too much fun
Salem - King night
to be honest, i don’t know if this belongs here. i just find it kinda funny how polarizing this band is but, hell, you gotta give them credit for aiming for gothic epicness while poking fun at dance music. or maybe they aren’t. who give a shit, it is noisy and entertaining
Karen Elson - The Ghost who Walks
nothing new here but i’ve always been a sucker for this sort of thing.
Janelle Monae - Cold War
who can argue with a song about the meeting of Reagan and Gorbachev in Reykjavik? Noone.
Bronze - Count to two
i admit, it took me a while to forgive bronze for existing. every minute bronze exists, the detachment kit doesn’t exist and that pisses me off. but at least bronze is not totally worthless.
Double Dagger - Sleeping with the TV on
starts out like first generation math rock and then warps into a first generation punk song and then, well, nothing more. just a simple proof that simple can be good.
